Yet Another Record-Breaking Year at the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon

Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon

On Friday 7th of June we downed our tools, left our desks, and got on our bikes to tackle miles and miles of idillic Yorkshire countryside! Sounds picturesque, doesn't it?

Alas, our cyclists endured 30 and 50-mile routes over challenging terrain, weaving in and out of roaming goats, and dodging potholes left, right and centre - but all for a fantastic cause!

That's right, we took part in Carter Jonas' annual LandAid Pedalthon for another year! Organised by Iconic Cycling Events and Carter Jonas, this year’s ride started at the beautiful Castle Howard just outside York.

As well as members of our office and fit out teams participating in the ride, we were also joined by Alex Willcocks from Engage and Andy Carroll from Carroll Electric Services of Otley!

It was an early start for all as we arrived at the starting line for 8am. There was a buzz in the air as all the keen cyclists fuelled themselves up on energy snacks and coffee.

Our 50-milers got into their branded orange gear and set off first with the intention of finishing at a similar time to our 30-milers, meanwhile the Marketing team go to work on pinning up the Absolute banners as we sponsored the event for a third consecutive year.

Of course we had to ensure one of our banners was positioned right behind the beer stand..

All cyclists were on their bikes and on their way by 9am, and it wasn't too long until they arrived at the first feeding station to regroup for the next leg and admiring the tasty treats that were on offer.

The orange juice was flowing and the tables were fully stocked with pies, sandwiches and other amazing refuelling options, all kindly provided by the events partners: Wensleydale Creamery, Appleton’s, Bothams of Whitby, and Yorkshire Provender.

After overindulging the year before, our cyclists restrained from going overboard with over half of the race still to go!

The second half was a little more gruelling than the first leg, particularly for the 50-milers who faced a mammoth hill climb straight after they left the feeding station.

But with unbelievable views over the Yorkshire Dales, there was no better setting to tackle the challenging rural route.

Despite embarking on different routes at different times, both of our 30 and 50-mile teams finished the route at very similar times.

The last leg was one of the hardest with a long straight road to the finish line, featuring a few steep hills to really put our cyclists through their paces!

However, any difficulties were soon forgotten with a cold pint from Wold Top Brewery and a warm pulled pork sandwich.

The event was a huge success and this year raised a fantastic £22,000 for LandAid with the help of sponsors, supporters and riders. It's an event we love to participate in!

The money raised goes towards providing accommodation for young people facing homelessness, and we're proud to have been a sponsor of the event for another year.
